The sun inside of him
rages like wildfire
and he is
gold
gold
gold
and he is
scorching the skin of my heart,
yet still he pretends
that he is safe for me to love,
that his hands are gentle,
that his fingerprints won’t be
seared into the notches of my spine.

The sun inside of him
could set the kingdom ablaze;
he knows this, he does.

And he still asks me to love him,
to face the flame.

Find me in the ashes.

I’m currently reading STRANGERS ON A TRAIN by Patricia Highsmith and it is just so fantastic, I need to tell everyone about how great it is.
SoaT is my fave Hitchcock movie, and I’ve seen it at least a dozen times, so I’m very familiar with the story, of course. I was a little worried that it wouldn’t be as fun to read because of this. HOWEVER I am proven wrong with every turn of the page. I am so into this book, and even more into that it was written by a woman in 1950.
And this after just finishing and falling in love with PERFUME: STORY OF A MURDERER by Patrick Süskind.
It’s a magical feeling to continue being enormously entranced (and perhaps even more entranced) as I move from book to book.
If you get a chance, pick up these books and read them at your earliest convenience.

alt-J - Hunger Of The Pine

There is a moment about a minute and a half into alt-J’s lush and intricate new single, when the Miley Cyrus sample plays for the first time, and you can’t help but step back and appreciate the absurdity of it. It shouldn’t work, but of course it does, adding yet another layer to this strange bird of a song. Orchestral, eclectic, tense, and soft, ‘Hunger Of The Pine’ doesn’t come in like a wrecking ball, so much as a breath of fresh air.

After alt-J last teased us with a “joke” single, this is a much better indication of what we can expect when their sophomore album All This Is Yours drops September 22nd.

That Miley sample is really something else. So unexpected, but it works.

a few weeks ago, boy showed me a picture he took that i liked very much. it’s nothing terribly special. but hey. i like pictures of doorways.

while i was in Mackinaw, i sent out quite a few postcards, one of which was, of course, mailed to him.
on Sunday, he walked into my house and handed me this, a hand-painted postcard of that picture, a small thank you he’d done the night i got back into town.

these are my favorite gifts.
